We reported that Bitcoin had rebounded above $800,000. The figure is wrong by a factor of ten: Bitcoin was trading at about $80,900 at the time, and our own price tape recorded $80,933 forty-five seconds before this story was first published. The error came from the summary of the source article we drew on, which read "Bitcoin claws its way above $800,000", and we repeated it in our headline, card, body and share card without checking it against the price data we already held. The figure has been corrected to $80,000 throughout and in all eight editions. A version of this story carrying the wrong figure was also sent to our Telegram channel at 17:33 UTC and cannot be unsent.

906 BTC déplacés sur Bitcoin en un seul transfert
Entre la publication du 20 août 2026 et le 21 août 2026, cet article n'avait pas d'adresse propre. Un autre transfert Bitcoin, publié le 15 août, avait produit un titre identique et donc une URL identique, et cette URL servait l'événement du 15 août. Un lecteur qui avait suivi l'ID canonique de cet article, BYTE-2026-08-20-0774, voyait la transaction du 15 août sur une page imprimant BYTE-2026-08-15-1017 — un ID canonique différent de celui qu'il avait demandé. Internet Archive a préservé cette mauvaise association dans un instantané pris le 20 août à 08:52 UTC, elle est donc du domaine public et n'est pas corrigée par ce seul changement. Cet article a maintenant sa propre adresse. L'article du 15 août conserve l'adresse originale, car il a été publié en premier et son URL était celle qui fonctionnait. Les slugs sont désormais rendus uniques lors de leur création, et le résolveur d'ID canonique ne se résout plus par leur intermédiaire.

The ERC-20 watcher recorded each transfer LEG of a transaction as a separate movement. Where a transaction's legs net out — a token routed through an intermediary and back, which is most of what a bridge or a market maker does — the ledger reported money moving that never moved. 71 rows published on 2026-08-18 and 2026-08-19, claiming a combined $9,236,295,454, were wrong and have been withdrawn from this page and from /api/v1/whales.json. The watcher now collapses a transaction's transfers per address before the recording threshold is applied, so a net-zero transaction records nothing. The superseded rows are kept verbatim in data/onchain_corrections/ — the record of what we published is not edited, only marked.
