What we promise

• We publish it unedited. Your words, in a bordered block on the story, dated and attributed to you. We do not shorten, rephrase or summarise a reply. There is no field anywhere in this site’s code for a house edit of one.
• We may decline — and we count it. We are not obliged to publish anything, but a refusal that leaves no trace is a right we granted ourselves. Every decline is recorded with its reason and the running total is below.
• Within 5 working days, we publish it or tell you we will not.
• A reply is not a correction. If we got a fact wrong we issue a correction as well — that has its own public record and its own scorecard. A reply is your account beside ours; a correction is us being wrong.

Nothing has been declined. If that stays true for long it is worth being suspicious of — either nobody is writing, or we are not saying when we say no.
