FINMA Approves Switzerland's First Spot Bitcoin ETF for Retail Investors
Switzerland’s financial regulator FINMA has approved the country’s first spot bitcoin ETF for retail investors, according to The Defiant and The Block.
Per The Defiant, FINMA granted the product an exemption from standard diversification rules that normally apply to retail funds, while requiring custody safeguards and clear disclosures warning investors about volatility and the risk of losses.
The Block reports the approval follows earlier listings of crypto exchange-traded products in Switzerland and a prior bitcoin fund that was restricted to qualified investors only. The new ETF extends access to ordinary retail buyers for the first time.
According to Cointelegraph, FINMA cited growing appetite among investors for cryptocurrency exposure as a factor behind the approval, and said multiple fund providers have submitted applications for their own Bitcoin ETFs, suggesting additional products could follow.
The move positions Switzerland among a small group of jurisdictions permitting direct retail access to spot bitcoin funds, with FINMA’s conditions — including custody requirements and mandatory risk warnings — serving as a template for how the regulator plans to oversee the asset class going forward.

Each figure is this site’s own reading, with what it was measured against. A blank is a reading nobody took, not a zero. The before-the-headline window prints the rate a RANDOM hour clears the same bar, because a hit rate without its null is not a finding.
