Privacy
This site does not track you. That is a statement about what the code does, so here is what it does.
No analytics, no cookies, no profile
There is no analytics beacon on this site, of any kind, from anybody. It sets no cookies. It does not know who you are, whether you have been here before, or which pages you read. There is no account to create, no newsletter form to fill in, and no advertising, so there is no profile of you anywhere for us to hold, sell or lose.
Nothing on the page comes from anywhere else
Every script, stylesheet, font, icon and image on this site is served from bytenews.io itself. Reading a page here contacts no other company at all. That is unusual and it is deliberate, and it is also the only version of this promise that can be checked rather than asserted: this project's own checks read every page of the built site and refuse a single one that loads anything from somewhere else. The moment you follow a link to one of our sources you are on their site, under their rules, and this page stops describing what happens to you.
What stays in your browser
Two things, and neither one reaches us. If you choose the light or dark theme, that choice is stored in your own browser so the next page does not flash the wrong one. If your browser supports it, the site keeps a copy of the pages you have opened so that they still work when you go offline. Both live on your device, both are yours to clear, and nothing about either is sent anywhere.
What the host sees
This site is served by Cloudflare. A web server has to receive your request, and your network address with it, in order to send you a page; that is how the web works and it is true of every site you have ever opened. Those are Cloudflare's own logs, kept under Cloudflare's terms. We add nothing to them, we run no analytics over them, and this site has no readership figures as a result.
If you write to us
Mail sent to [email protected] reaches a mailbox, and we keep it in order to answer you. If what you send is a right of reply we publish it on the story, unedited and attributed to you, which is the whole point of sending it. Nothing else is done with an address that writes to us: it goes on no list, because there is no list.
Alerts
Push alerts are not switched on. The code for them ships with the site and refuses every request, so there are no subscriptions and nothing is stored. If they are ever turned on, what would be kept is the subscription object your own browser hands over, filed under a hash of it, with no name, no address and no record of what you read; and this page would say so before it happened.
Your rights over all of this
There is no account, no profile and no reading history to ask us for, to correct, or to have deleted, because none of it is collected. If you have written to us then that email is the only thing we hold that is yours, and you can ask us to delete it at the address above.
