HSBC and Standard Chartered have completed the first live transaction on Swift's blockchain ledger, according to The Defiant, CoinDesk, and Cointelegraph.

The transaction connected the two banks' separate tokenized deposit systems through Swift's ledger, according to Cointelegraph, which described the move as a step toward interoperable, 24/7 cross-border payments. CoinDesk reported the transaction ran on Swift's 24/7 ledger.

According to The Defiant, Swift's ledger matched and netted the obligations that had been recorded on the two banks' separate platforms. However, final settlement of the transaction still went through existing banking systems rather than the blockchain ledger itself, The Defiant reported.

The transaction marks Swift's ledger moving from testing into live use by banks for a real transaction between two institutions' tokenized deposit platforms.
